My Skincare Regimen

I need to apologize to anyone that has travelled with me. I have an extremely strict skincare regimen that I follow morning and night. Which means I have a lot of skincare products that I have to bring with me everywhere. I'm actually the subject of a running joke in my family because I always pack so many toiletry items.

Interesting fact, I've NEVER missed my nightly routine. It doesn't matter if I'm tired, on a boat, or camping, I always find a way to do my nightly routine. After people find out how old I am they always want to know what products I use. Just this week someone thought I was 20 years old! And last week someone said I looked 24. Hint: I'm much older than both of those numbers. And while I attribute most of that to good genetics, I do think my regimen has helped out quite a bit.

Skincare isn't always an easy topic for guys to discuss. It's not very manly to admit that it takes 20 minutes to get ready for bed each night because I have to wash and moisturize my face. My skincare obsession started because I had severe acne all through high school and most of college. (I'll spare you the pictures.) I still have scars on my face from the acne. I've worked hard over the years to find products that minimize my acne breakouts, and I'm happy to share them with you.

Products

My routine changes from time to time if I find new products that I like. But here are my staples:

  • Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Scrub

  • Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash

  • Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment for Men

  • Curology (custom formula)

  • Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Eye Serum (ya, I know, it's for women)

First of all, you probably notice that I am a big fan of Kiehl's products. That would be an understatement. After years of trial and error, these Kiehl's products were the only things that didn't make my face either too dry or too oily. I think that's what I love most about them. I have probably been using Kiehl's for almost 8 years now, and I would highly recommend everyone visit their stores for a free skincare consultation.

Curology is my other miracle product that I've been using for about 2 years. Curology is an online pharmacy that creates custom skincare formulas for fighting different acne related issues. My formula is made up of 3 ingredients meant to unclog pores and fight acne-causing bacteria. After being on two rounds of Accutane years ago, my acne isn't as bad as it used to be. But I still get occasional flare-ups and clogged pores. With Curology, I've noticed that these have significantly decreased.

The Beauty Booster Eye Serum is the newest addition to my regimen. I have only been using it for 3-4 months. Whenever I would buy my Kiehl's products in-store the sales associates would say, "Have you tried any of our eye creams?" Obviously I had an issue under my eyes. I quickly learned that the Kiehl's eye creams gave me breakouts around my eyes. So I found this alternative serum from a brand that has pretty clean products. And, so far, I've loved it! My eyes don't have dark circles underneath them, and my skin looks more healthy.

How does this all fit in to my daily schedule, you may ask? Here is my morning and night skincare regimen:

Morning Skincare Regimen

  • Scrub anywhere I have facial hair with the Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Scrub (In the shower)

  • Wash entire face with the Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash (In the shower)

  • Pat face dry after leaving the shower

  • Shave with an electric razor (I use a Braun electric razor with a straight blade)

  • Apply a decent amount of Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment for Men to my entire face and under chin

  • Finish by lightly dabbing a drop of Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Eye Serum under each eye

Nighttime Skincare Regimen

  • Wash entire face with the Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash

  • Apply a pea size amount of Curology to my entire face

  • Apply a decent amount of Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment for Men to my entire face and under chin

  • Finish by lightly dabbing a drop of Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Eye Serum under each eye

And, of course, this is just my skincare routine. As part of my full morning and night routines I also include oral hygiene and eye care. Let me know if you end up trying any of these products! Or if you have a product you absolutely love, send me a link! I'm always looking for the next best thing.
